The emergence of LED for use within both commercial and domestic environments has culminated from the increased efficiencies in chip technology. This advance is further supported with the way that phosphor is used in conjunction with the chip.
The use of white light is a recent breakthrough for LED, rendering them viable for use in exchange for costly and poor efficiency Halogen lamps to name just one lamp type.
The typical halogen lamp produces just 22 lumens for every Watt of energy.
It life is often limited to just 2,000 hours at a cost of £3.50 per unit
At 50 Watts its an expensive lamp to run given most of the energy supplied is wasted in the form of heat.
The LED replacement is producing the same lumens from just 7 Watt with a life of in excess of 50,000 hours.
The typical cost for an MR16 replacement is just over the £13.00 mark
Available in a variety of different Colour Temperature (Kelvin) to give greater flexibility.
The thermal properties are also worth considering as many applications also run Air Conditioning systems. LED run quite considerably cooler and are less temperamental to changes in ambient temperature.
However, the biggest saving is in the reduction in carbon. With recent Energy Companies hiking the cost this impact even the domestic user significantly.
Reports from leading Lighting associations show that over 70% of all new building projects will feature LED lighting by 2014.
This lighting component will not just be confined to a little bit of decorative trim, but the bulk the main lighting.

High Street savings LED by Exled
Some high end fashion stores were the earliest adopters of LED lighting systems for jewellery and watch displays, LED lighting have not been widely adopted in the high street.
Most retail outlets need to recoupe fit-out costs in 2 years or less, because stores might be relocated, or refurbished with a new image after relatively short periods of operation.
This has meant that energy wasting Halogen lamps and track spotlights remain prevalent in High street retail stores, being cheap to buy and quick to install.
Until now... this is about to change as prices of manufacturing LEDs lower meaning that we can now offer LED AR111 retrofit lamps and LED track lights and LED spot lights at a lower cost and light outputs have increased to equal the ubiquitous 50 Watt Halogen lamp.
LED AR111 lamps use 12 Watts producing 650 lumens and 15 Watt LED track lights with 800 lumens designed and supplied by Exled can pay for themselves in energy savings and bulb costs alone, based on 10 hours use per day within 2 years. While some lighting suppliers are still charging premium prices for these items, they seem to be missing the economic reality of the need to short term cost recovery.
Factor in a 2 year guarantee and 5 year plus life expectancy and suddenly LED AR111 lamps and LED track lights make sound sense in a typical high street retail outlet.
